UniWords is featured in an official Oxford Languages case study published by Oxford University Press. Read it on the Oxford Languages site: UniWords case study — Oxford Languages.
UniWords is a Scrabble-style word game for iOS and Android, available in Danish and English, with tournaments and ELO ranking. Word validation in the game is powered by the Oxford Languages UK English word game dataset, licensed directly from Oxford University Press.
Why Oxford?
In a classic word game, the dictionary is the rulebook. Players trust UniWords precisely because every word is validated against an authoritative lexical source.
“In a classic word game, it is necessary to have a dictionary to assess whether a word is valid or not. In this context, it is important that this validation is based on a dictionary that users trust.”
— Alexander Stobbe, CEO, UniWords
How the integration came together
The Oxford Languages dataset arrived in a clean, structured form that the UniWords engineering team integrated directly into the game.
“Integration was remarkably straightforward. The data arrived in a clean, well-structured format that we could implement directly into our word game without any pre-processing or transformation.”
— Sebastian Brandt, Software Engineer, UniWords
Designed for everyone
“UniWords features an inspiring graphical universe that invites players on a ‘language journey’ through a vast ‘universe of words’.”
— Max Vestberg, Graphic Designer, UniWords
